The 4th Beijing international Conference of Friendly Chambers of Commerce(BICCC)

The first Beijing International Conference of Friendly Chambers of Commerce (BICCC) was convened in Beijing from September 14 to 16, 2011 under the theme of “cooperation, development, and mutual benefits” in support of Beijing's strategy to grow into a world metropolis with Chinese characteristics and an international commercial and trade hub. It gathered over 500 delegates representing international organizations including the ICC World Chambers Federation (WCF), 45 chambers of commerce and companiesfrom 25 countries and regions including the United States, France, Germany, Brazil, and Russia.

Then member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Party Secretary of Beijing Liu Qi held a meeting with senior officials of some foreign chambers and business organizations. Then head of China Chamber of International Commerce Wan Jifei attended the opening ceremony and met with foreign participants. Then deputy mayor of Beijing Cheng Hong, then World Chambers Federation (WCF) vice chair Mustafa Mansur, then chair of Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Mr. Govorov and then vice chair of Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended and addressed the opening ceremony. The conference took on forms such as themed dialogues, roundtable meetings, promotion, on-site presentation, inspection and exchange, to create a communication and cooperation platform for chambers, international organizations, government agencies and companies. It discussed how to give play to the new role of chambers and seek for their further cooperation and development in the course of economic globalization and in Beijing’s efforts to grow into a world metropolis with Chinese characteristics.

The conference proceeded from the economic reality in Beijing and made practical and forward-looking discussions about three topics: The Synergy of Chambers in the Context of Economic Globalization and the Role of Chambers in Urban Economic and Social Progress, Innovation and Sustainable Development of Chambers' Service Mode, and Business Opportunities and Cooperation in Beijing's Efforts to Grow into a World Metropolis with Chinese Characteristics. The purpose was to seek as many international resources in favor of Beijing’s economic development as possible and explore new strategies to help chambers and local enterprises in Beijing go global.

The Beijing Consensus on Cooperation was inked to strengthen win-win cooperation and promote sustainable. The Consensus, covering seven aspects including common prosperity, information sharing and rights & interests protection, serves as an action programme for participating chambers from around the world to strengthen communication and coordination, boost common prosperity, and drive economic and social development in their home country/region, a milestone in the win-win cooperation between chambers and lays a solid foundation for the internationalization of chambers.

To enhance international communication and cooperation and attract more international resources, during the conference, Beijing Chamber of International Commerce (BCIC) signed the long-term cooperation agreement with nine overseas chambers of commerce, namely, theGreater Houston Partnership (USA), Nord-Pas-de-Calais Chamber of Commerce and Industry (France), Amman Chamber of Commerce (Jordan), Oslo Chamber of Commerce (Norway), Chile-China Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, United Arab Emirates Business and Facilities Management Royal Club, Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Romania), Geneva Chamber of Commerce, and HongKong Chinese Industry & Commerce Association, paving the way for it to sustain long-term cooperation with overseas counterparts.
